Exhibition... ongoing

Sadly the damp has made things 'curl up' as you can see in the pictures, however i've propped things up with tables and bits of wood stored in the Crypt.

signage... arrow dilemma

Not too sure about the arrow, I wanted to retain the angles of and 'hexagonalness' of the logo, but not sure if it fits in.

More signage development

I printed some of the exhibition signage today to check its legibility. The header type is about 60pt and the main body is 16pt. I feel this should be fine considering the confined space in which they'll be presented, as its unlikely they'll be viewed from a great distance.

Show "as is" from a distance, it's unlikely it'll be viewed from this far.

Showing the scale of the boards. While it seems low down for me, I have to consider that many if not most people are shorter then me.

existing promo site for an exhibition....

Nice and simple

Facebook event page

exhibition guide booklet

The front cover would actually be dye cut/acetate and the green of the 'contents' page would show through. The image on the 3_venue spread is temporary.

This wont be produced, as the costs would be too high, however if finances were available I would...

Cover

2-3 contents (black page is back of cover)

4-5 - about the exhibition

6-7 - about the artists

8-9 - about the venue (picture temporary)

signage experimentations...

To display information as well as the work, one solution is to utilise cardboard sheets. These are durable, but also more economical then wood. One supplier online, sells sheets for £7 which can make four 'panels'. The panels are just under 6ft high and just over 30cm wide and are produced in black as well as the default brown colour.

I've produced a mockup to scale with sheets of paper....

Text - headers will be 30-40pt in Futura Condensed Medium and main text 14-16pt in Helvetica Neau.

1x Craig for scale, identity protected due to looking gormless. They're shorter then me, but I have to bear in mind that not everyone is a giant (or so people like to call me).

As soon as I have access to a printer, I'll print out various mock signs to see what text sizes work.

Exhibition catalogue which uses postcards instead of a book. The cards include images as well as information about the artists.

Signage

Type info is contained within image (click to see large).

Subject to funds, I may produce these with coloured type which may allow a colour coding system for individual photographers (the current plan will involve two other photographers alongside my own work).

This is based on the identity system shown in the previous blog entry which will be used throughout the exhibition graphics.

Exhibition catalogues... from google

One thing I may produce is a catalogue of the exhibition, however it requires further study before I draw up any plans...

Google has a few results, but nothing particularly eye catching, here's some of the better examples....

I do like fold out stuff... also perhaps cheaper to produce.

St Phillips Church - recon trip - crypt

The most interesting part of the church for me was crypt below the church, an impressive and somewhat forgotten vaulted space. Unfortunately the main issues are mounting work and a limited part of it has lighting as well as accessibility.

One of the alcoves, the door at the end leads to a dark area.

Looking down the 'central corridor' of the crypt. Alcoves branch off either side.

Coat hangars, perhaps I could hang images from these?

Typical alcove, full of items. Perhaps these could be used to mount stuff?

Access

St Phillips Church - recon trip - other areas

The church also has places lesser seen by the public such as the clock tower stairwell. This is one potential location for exhibiting work as there are more blank walls and relates to the 'unseen' theme of the work.

St Phillips Church - recon trip - main area

Today I went to visit St Phillips Church in Salford, which has been kindly offered as a potential location for the exhibition. The main congregation area is quite expansive and busy, with limited places to place work without intruding on services or other events which take place here.

The upper level has most potential as there are more blank spaces on the walls to place images.

General views of the lower level.

Lower level pillar, one potential place for placing items.

poster concept

Considering the cost limitations and nature of the exhibition, the poster design is primarily a black space with the logo and text confined to the top left corner. This makes a point of the darkness and mystery while being cheaper to mass produce then using photographic images. The design could be produced through numerous techniques from professional digital printing, screen print and even photocopy.
